Having the MXG emulate another signal generator will not change the instrument PRESET settings.
The N5181A can be setup the way you want it to be with AM; then you have to save it to an instrument state. Then as part of your turn-on routine in your program you will have to first recall the instrument state and AM; then the N5181A will have the display configured as you had set it up.
