So the same thing happens, for several people at least, on ICD3, PICkit3, and Real ICE.
Be nice if microchip could acknowledge that they might have a look before the next release.
Also - unplugging USB (for ICD3 and PICkit3) does indeed un-freeze MPLABX! That's almost as good as a fix, thankyou Jim!
