Thanks for the reply.  I found "Documentation Navigation Standalone -  2015.4  Lightweight Installer Download" and selected the Linux bin file.  Launched it, selected the option for downloading DocNav and landed at the same dilemma: the DocNav option was grayed out and I couldn't select it.  To be very precise, here's the sequence:

 
Launch /Xilinx_Vivado_SDK_2015.4_1118_2_Lin64.bin
Perform user authentication, with "Download and Install Now" option
Accept all three license obligations
Select Document Navigator (Standalone)
The next screen has the single item DocNav, grayed out so I can't select it, and the Next button requires me to select something, so this is a dead end.
 
I tried the "Add Design Tools or Devices" option from within Vivado and landed at the same point.
 
P.S.  I corrected my misspelling in the subject line.  I hope that's okay.
