There was one called C18, which is obsolete now.
The current offering from Microchip is XC8, which comes in "Free" and "Pro" versions.

    Hi,
A .hex file is produced by MPLAB IDE when building the project.
In MPLAB X it is the big buttons with a Hammer, or Hammer and Broom icon.
The Project.hex file is buried somewhere in a subdirectory deep below the Project.X directory,
something like:
    .../Project.X/dist/'config name'/production/filename.hex
 
MPLAB 8.92 will also produce a .hex file, the file is located in output directory.
 
EasyPIC v7 is a Big development board from MikroElektronika in Belgrade, with a heap of external peripherals, LEDs and pushbuttons.
 
The board have a number of sockets from 8 pin to 40 pin DIP packages for about any PIC10, PIC12, PIC16 or PIC18 device.
It seem to come with a PIC18F45K22 in 40 pin DIP package.
 
There is a 6 pin RJ12 socket ICD3 style for connecting an external programmer, like ICD3 or Real ICE.
There is also a "mikroProg" Programmer with USB connection on the board,
with jumpers to hopefully disconnect it from the ICD3 socket.
The programmer on the board may be used with a programming application from the same company.
It is probably a derivative of PICkit 2 or 3 with developments.
 
I have no idea if the programmer on the board will work with MPLAB X for debugging.
There are long traces and a number of sockets on the board, so I do not know if a PICkit 3 with a 6 pin SIP to RJ12 adapter cable will work reliably.
