HCI means you must run the bluetooth stack on the CPU and therefore you need to have a certified bluetooth stack.If you use a non HCI module (much much simpler) you can use a much simpler PIC (basically any PIC) because the bluetooth stack is inside the bluetooth module. You only need to send commands. So I recommend that you use a non HCI bluetooth module like RN52 or BM62 / BM64.
